Training and Support Programs

H.G. Makelim Co. is hosting seven exceptional training courses at our South San Francisco headquarters. Courses vary from one to three days in length and are taught by some of the best instructors in the industry. Courses are offered through Bosch and ADS.

Important Notes: Bosch courses are for Bosch Diesel Service Dealers only. Some require prerequisite training. To register for - and attend - any of the Bosch classes, you must enroll on the www.boschtechinfo.com website.

Log-in with your DSD or DSC number when you access the website.

The prerequisite for the Update Class has changed. Technicians must have attended a DSD3 (VE) course; or an A/RSV, P/P7100 and EDC class. This is a required course for any service dealer who has not completed VE pump training since 2004. If you have additional questions regarding Bosch training, please call 708.865.5665.

March 6-8, 2012
Bosch – Duramax Diesel Engine
2 ½-day class, 8:15am – 12:00pm
Prerequisites: Drive-in/drive-out diesel engine technician with good technical knowledge of and six months experience in troubleshooting diesel engines. Working knowledge of ESI[tronic] and SIS. Completion of Pre- Tech modules pertaining to diesel basics, nameplates, product identification, nozzles, nozzle holders and metrics, and a Bosch DM course (or equivalent electronics training).

Objectives
Enable the technician to properly identify, diagnose and service the General Motors Duramax diesel engine equipped with the Bosch electronically controlled high pressure common rail system and the Allison 1000 transmission. Acquire a working knowledge of basic electronics. Demonstrate and perform troubleshooting and repair procedures necessary to properly service and maintain electronic systems and components.

Content
Introduction to OBD II. Construction and operating principles of individual components, interaction within the complete system including the Allison transmission, failure mode analysis, component testing, troubleshooting and testing of the system on the vehicle. Use of manufacturers’ software and diagnostic tools to view the vehicle’s operating parameters and diagnose stored faults. Use of related Bosch service tools and test equipment.

Bosch – H Pump
1-day calibration class, 8:15am – 4:15pm
Prerequisites: Diesel pump technician with extensive technical knowledge of and one year experience servicing diesel inline fuel injection pumps. Working knowledge of ESI[tronic] and SIS. Completion of A/RSV, P, P7100/RQV-K and EDC courses. Disassembly and reassembly of the H-pump with the RE governor prior to the class is a must.

Objectives
Enable the technician to diagnose, test, repair and calibrate the inline H-pump with RE electronic governor.

Content
Construction and operating principles of individual components, interaction within the complete system, testing, calibration and failure mode analysis of the inline H-pump with the RE electronic governor. Use of related Bosch service information systems, service tools and test equipment. ESI[tronic] update and review.

June 6-7, 2012
ADS – Introduction to Ford Power Stroke 6.0-Liter Operation and Diagnostics
2-day class, 8:00am to 5:00pm

Introduction to the new Power Stroke 6.0-Liter engine, highlighting the differences from the 7.3-liter engine in regards to: fuel system operation, engine configuration and features, cooling and lubrication systems, VGT variable turbo charging, EGR operation, and Glow Plug systems. Use of the new PDA/ VCM equipped scan tool Hands-on training with the oil supply systems, PCM sensors and actuators Emphasis on diagnostic trouble code and test procedures.

Instructor
The class is taught by Tony Salas, Tony is an automotive and diesel instructor with over 20 years of teaching experience. Tony has provided contract training for General Motors Fleet and Commercial as well as AC Delco. His training experience includes Ford Power Stroke GM 6.5 and Duramax 6.6L training.

July 11-12, 2012
ADS – Dodge/Cummins Diesel
2-day class, 8:00am to 5:00pm

Theory and operation of the Dodge/Cummins Engine. Classroom presentations and hands-on training for engine designations, designs, turbo charger operation, EGR, Glow Plug engine management, and fuel system operation. Emphasis on common rail diagnostics: fuel pressure and fuel injector control module operation. Service information to aid technicians in diagnosis, supplemented with use of the DRB III and Star Scan tools, to interpret data, and bi-directional controls.

The class is taught by Tony Salas, Tony is an automotive and diesel instructor with over 20 years of teaching experience. Tony has provided contract training for General Motors Fleet and Commercial as well as AC Delco. His training experience includes Ford Power Stroke GM 6.5 and Duramax 6.6L training.

September 12, 2012
ADS – Sprinter Diesel Engine Management
1-day class, 8:00am to 5:00pm

Complete system coverage of the V5 and V6 Bosch Common Rail Diesel fuel system, including: low and high-pressure fuel diagnosis and testing; EGR, turbo charging; air-intake systems, including the P0299 code; testing techniques for ECU input and output, and Glow Plug module tests.

Instructor
The class will be taught by Mr. Al Dambrauskas from the Mechanic’s Education Association (MEA). MEA is a support center for repair technicians throughout the country. They support technicians through training, telephone hotline, and mobile troubleshooting. The instructor for this course participates in all facets of vehicle repair and technician support.

Cost: $350, ($250 for ADS Members)


October 24-25, 2012
Bosch – Updates of Bosch DFIE
1 ½-day class, 8:15am – 12:00pm
Prerequisites: Diesel pump technician with extensive technical knowledge of and two years experience servicing diesel fuel injection distributor and inline pumps, governors, nozzles, nozzle holders and timing devices. Working knowledge of ESI[tronic] and SIS. Technicians must have completed a DSD3 (VE) course; or an A/RSV, P/P7100 and EDC class. Bosch/Heathkit DC Electronics (or equivalent electronics training) is recommended.

Objectives
Enable the technician to diagnose, test, repair and calibrate specified Bosch DFIE. Content Updates on all Bosch DFIE. Calibration of a VE pump with the K-KSB and LFB. Review of calibration procedures on mechanical and electronic governors. Operating principles, repair and calibration of limited edition ancillary devices. Use of related Bosch service information systems, service tools and test equipment. ESI[tronic] update and review.
